Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha - Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's - Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS - Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid - Magical Record Nanoha Force

Nanoha Takamachi was a 9 year old 3rd grader who stumbled upon a talking ferret with a magical jewel and the power to become a Mage. Entrusted to collect a number of dangerous artifacts from another world called Jewel Seeds, she would come into conflict with another Mage named Fate Testarossa. Through battle and hardships, Nanoha became allied with the interdimensional Time Space Administration Bureau in order to prevent the machinations of Fate's mother, Presea. Though Fate discovers an unfortunate fate of her creation - being the clone of Presea's dead daughter, Alicia - Nanoha is able to befriend her through their battles. While Presea is lost, Fate receives a new lease on life.

Months later, a young girl named Hayate comes into possession of another dangerous artifact sometimes known as the Book of Darkness. It puts the Wolkenritter - a group of magical knights - into her service, but also puts her life on the line. Without her knowledge they seek magical power from creatures and beings across several worlds, and come into conflict with Nanoha and the TSAB. In the end, Nanoha and her friends are able to purge the darkness from the book, working alongside Hayate and the Wolkenritter to accomplish this.

Many years pass, and during this time Nanoha and her friends join the TSAB. On a mission, Nanoha is gravely injured and nearly loses her ability to walk, much less fly. She would recover, but it colors her actions later on as she becomes a combat instructor for the TSAB. In order to investigate the actions set forth by a mad scientist named Jail Scaglietti, Hayate - now a high ranking member of the TSAB - gets permission to form Riot Force 6. Nanoha, Fate, and the Wolkenritter are subsequently recruited, as are several new Mages in training - Subaru, Erio, Teana, and Caro. They discover a young girl who is key to unleashing the power of a dangerous, ancient (yes, again) battleship named the Saint's Cradle. The girl - Vivio - becomes attached to Nanoha and Fate as if they were her parents, but is captured by Jail's forces and then set against Nanoha when the TSAB launches an assault on the Cradle. Nanoha is able to defeat Vivio, and the last remnants of those loyal to Jail, and they prevent the Cradle from becoming a danger.

For a short period of time, after adopting Vivio, Nanoha stays home to be able to raise her. In that time, Vivio grows tremendously in her own magical power soon running into her own conflicts and opponents. Eventually, she rejoins her former RF6 comrades to investigate incidents involving the Huckebein family, yet another probable ancient artifact in the form of the Bible of the Silver Cross, and a boy named Thoma Avenir who fights to protect a mysterious girl named Lily. At a point overcome with the power he's wielding while Nanoha and her comrades pursue the Huckebeins, Nanoha is forced to do battle with Thoma - and with teamwork they eventually subdue him. And of course, then start working together with him. Because - in case you haven't figured it out by now - that's how Nanoha rolls.

[The last paragraph pertains to Nanoha ViVid and Nanoha Force, both of which being manga sequels that are still in progress. ViVid focuses primarily on Vivio, and thus Nanoha's involvement isn't always very heavy. Force primarily focuses on Thoma, though Nanoha's influence when she finally intervenes is much more prominent. That said, both are still in progress, with Force having been on hiatus for nearly a year.]

Reincarnated History: Natalie Tamura was born to an American woman and Japanese man, the youngest of several children. Due to both work and family, the Tamura family found themselves living in both the USA and Japan for various stretches, sometimes long, sometimes short. Regardless, Natalie ended up being born when they were in Tokyo. They lived there for over a decade, before a falling out with her father's family and a job opportunity in Locke City for her mother brought them Stateside once more.

In spite of how busy her family was, they always tried to make time for their children. When the parents couldn't, the older siblings did, and while her mother would end up spending less and less time at home due to a successful but intensive job at an accounting firm, she would find herself growing closest to her father over time. He wrote - largely, a lot of technical documents, and a few "how-to" books on technology, so he was home more.

Overall, she was happy, and especially grateful to her older siblings who would take care of her so often. She also took a lot of inspiration from her mother's drive, and her father putting things out there to teach people. Combined, it gave her a certain sort of drive as she grew older - a want to help those younger, and to teach people. Thus, she went through college to become a teacher. Specifically, an elementary school teacher as she actually, earnestly wanted to teach children at a young age so they had a good start.

In spite of some upheaval as a child, her life was thus... completely normal. Sort of peaceful, in fact, with a happy, if busy, but loving family.

Naturally, then... a kaiju snake happened on a shopping trip.

    Now we're at today.

    STE IN-GAME HISTORY

At first, Natalie was scared. She tried to hide from what was happening around her, especially as people - normal and Numbered alike - began dropping dead in Las Vegas. Monsters continued to roam Locke City, now more openly than before. Upon the sight of a ghostly visage in a blackout, she attained access to her magical power and.. had no idea what to do with it.

Soon, they came under threat from the mafia, and Natalie - along with Fuyuka - fled Locke City to keep Natalie's family and students safe from retaliation. There, they participated in trying to mitigate damage from the Refined Shell attack, but otherwise Natalie was largely adrift. Uncertain of what to do with her life, unable to really move on. They became friendly with a man named Kevin Steele, an FBI agent reincarnated from Nanoha's past life, from a young man named Chrono Harlaown who held a connection to Fuyuka's incarnation, Fate.

Eventually however, the memories faded. Raising Heart's light stopped shining, and Natalie got an offer as they stayed out west to take on a new teaching job. That she did, although she had kept a comprehensive series of notes to remind herself of just what was going on, just in case that power might one day fade, so she wouldn't be defenseless any longer.

As it turns out, however... Everything decided to swing back around as the world came to a head.

First Echo: Natalie saw Wise Snake. Then hid.

However, besides her Numbers she received Nanoha's Linker Core - the raw magical power she possessed, and the necessity for using that magical power. Of course, just because that power resides in her, it does not mean she can use it yet. That will come later, and with later abilities. If anyone can detect magical energies however, that well of power should pop up on their radars.

Secondly, she receives Raising Heart - the magical device through which she channels that power. However, at present Raising Heart is inactive. Its sentience is dormant, and Natalie cannot yet use it as a focusing tool. Like the Linker Core however, one can detect it as magical. The appearance it takes presently will be a simple red jewel on a necklace.

All other echoes she received over the course of the last year can be found here!

Preincarnation Personality: As a young child, Nanoha suffered from a slight bit of depression. She had nothing in her life that she was especially good at, her elder family members were successful and led interesting lives, while she was just... who she was. That all changed when she obtained the power of magic, meeting Yuuno and obtaining Raising Heart. Finding something she was good at, she maintained a steadfast determination to use her power for the right thing.

That determination is one of her biggest strengths. Once she has a goal set in mind, she will work hard and put her all into accomplishing it. She has trained rigorously for years to strengthen her magical power and become the best she can be with it, and has succeeded in that with flying colors. After suffering a terrible injury as a child on the battlefield, she was told she may not ever walk, much less fly, again. In spite of that, she beat those odds within a couple years, continuing to serve the Time Space Administration Bureau as both a soldier and combat instructor. She will do that which she sets her mind to, or pretty much die trying, no matter what hurdle is set in her way.

Nanoha is exceptionally mature for her age. Having had to weigh matters of life and death since she was 9 years old and joining an inter-dimensional military at the same time, she has not had much in the way of what one would call a "normal" childhood since then. She doesn't react to dangerous matters in the same way a child (or teenager, in this case) would, having had an awful lot of experience dealing with people trying to kill her and destroy the world first hand. She does have a trait, however, that could be looked at as incredibly childish and naive regardless of her maturity. She honestly and truly wants to think the best of everyone she meets, even if you initially display hostile intent. If she senses even a chance she'll be able to get through to them, she'll take it. This does not mean she is going to simply be walked over, however - she will fight you with every tool she has at her disposal with hardly a moment's hesitation if you proves to be a danger. She will continue to try and get through to you at the same time, but these attempts do not typically dull her ability to fight and defend herself.

What does hurt her is the complete disregard for her own safety. Nanoha almost seems to have little concept with regards to the value of her own life, as she has frequently put herself in extreme danger to try and get through to enemies, and to protect friends. She's inflicted extreme damage to her own body at times due to this, the most notable of which being the aforementioned time when she was left nearly paralyzed to protect her friend, Vita. She's even used experimental weapons installed into Raising Heart that weren't meant for use, in spite of being told not to use them.

She does, however, have something of an "other" side to her. It is rarely triggered, either by those refusing to listen to her, or by something that would bring forth intense anger in her... But there comes a point where she will put her foot down and say enough is enough. This usually entails copious explosions. Even her near saint-like patience with people does have its limits. Her true anger is rarely an obviously explosive one - it is quiet and calculating up until the point something DOES explode. This can happen with opponents, or even friends or students - her tolerance pushed to the breaking point, she can suddenly turn a 180 and, even if only briefly, come across as extremely harsh. Almost cold. These moments are usually very brief, but they can be striking and somewhat dangerous.

It's notable that as a young girl, Nanoha felt very isolated and alone, in spite of her large family. Age gaps and her father spending a considerable time recovering from injuries once, as well as her parents generally being very busy meant she spent a lot of time alone as a little girl. Even in spite of friends, she felt very... lonely. It's why she felt a kinship with Fate, and one could extend that pretty easily to why she reaches out to lonely, seemingly hopeless souls so often.

Nanoha is a kind and sweet soul, overall. If you are her friend - and many people are - you will know one of the most affectionate and loving people you ever could. She wishes only good things for people, and will do what she can to make sure those things happen. This includes making sure that others do not suffer the same issues she did when younger. While she has a disregard for her own safety, it's not a trait she wants her students to ever really pick up on, and trains them accordingly.

    Any Differences:
  • Although she retained some of Nanoha's maturity growing up, it was more something Natalie had to grow into. She wasn't pressed with life and death decisions all the time. Though thoughtful and kind all the same, she was allowed to be a child - she did childish things, got in trouble like a child would, fell in and out of love like a normal teenage girl, and struggled with college like a regular young adult. Being in the military is the furthest thing form her mind, and fighting even further. So while she is now a responsible and mature adult, she got there at a regular pace and has the perspective to match that. Nanoha never really had a childhood; Natalie has one she remembers fondly.
  • However, without experiencing many of those things and in fact, never really being in any danger her whole life? And always being taken care of, never really wanting for anything? Natalie is more naive by and far. Even as an adult, the ways of the world and the extents people will stoop to go over her head. She thus takes Nanoha's belief in people even further, potentially. While she understands there are truly bad people in the world, she sees them as this distant thing that's never really been a factor to her. They're the sorts of things you see on the nightly news, and how unfortunate it must be for people living in bad neighborhoods. That would never happen to her!
  • She is in fact even more peppy than Nanoha, not having had to worry about such dangerous things. Which is a frightening prospect to consider.
  • Natalie never had Nanoha's lack of ambition or direction as a child. She understood early on what she wanted to do, and pursued that goal. It's a very simple distinction, but an important one. Her parents were a major influence on her in this area, and seeing how successful they were through hard work and sharing knowledge that she wanted to do it in some way herself.
  • Natalie is NOT a natural fighter, as Nanoha was. At all. In the slightest. She owns a gun because her father made her buy one to protect her home, and she keeps the ammunition and gun so far separated they're practically useless. This skill and mindset is pure echo territory.
  • Natalie was also not lonely as a child. She had close friends in Japan, and many, many more in Locke City growing up. She had a sibling closer in age than Nanoha's teenager older brother and sister, and even with as busy as they were spent much more time with her parents than Nanoha seemed to have. As such, she does not have the regret or feelings of sadness that drove, or really an understanding of what it means to be alone. As much as this sent Nanoha to seek out friendship with Fate, this is a notable difference in perspective.
  • Natalie as well really loves to BAKE. She's actually quite good at it.

Abilities: Nanoha, in spite of all accomplishments, is really only exceptionally good at one thing – fighting, and all things related to it. As a child, before her fateful encounter to obtain Raising Heart, she was just an average girl until her proficiency for combat reared its head. She is a natural warrior, able to learn and adapt to battle situations at a frighteningly quick pace. Her greatest skill in combat is aerial and long-distance shooting, but she has been shown to be capable of handling herself when someone is getting up front and in her face, as well.

Nanoha has a natural magical talent, and with her Intelligent Device Raising Heart, can harness it to great effect. That magical power is born from her "Linker Core," the embodiment of her raw magical power. There is a limited amount she can do without Raising Heart actually in hand, but for the most part she must have the Device handy to preform the grand majority of her skills. Raising Heart enables her to transform and summon a “Barrier Jacket” to wear and do battle in, which from all indications increase her defensive abilities and capability to withstand harder hits. When enough damage is dealt to the Barrier Jacket, it'll activate a "Reactor Purge," igniting a small explosion as the outer layer of the jacket effectively detonates, to push the attacking party back.

Raising Heart itself transforms from a tiny jewel to a rather large staff, which is used to project the majority of Nanoha's spells, particularly her shooting ones, where Raising Heart is utilized like a cannon. It would also bear to reason her physical strength is increased somewhat, too, given the ease with which she swings something of Raising Heart's size around.

Nanoha has a great many spells at her disposal, which largely break down into Attack, Defensive, and Support/Movement types. Raising Heart runs on a "Cartridge System" which loads what are effectively bullets of condensed magical energy to increase the potency of her attacks. Raising Heart itself has a certain level of artificial intelligence, but it is rudimentary at best, acting mostly as a means of assessing battle situations.

The majority of her Attack Spells relate to the acts of firing bursts of magical energy that have varying levels of destructive power. Her most signature Spell of this type is the Divine Buster, which fires off a large beam of energy from her Device. Her strongest technique is the Starlight Breaker, which gathers the stray magical energy floating around a battlefield, compacting it into a sphere which then has its energy launched at her enemy. This is not a spell she can start a battle off with, as it requires magic to have been dispelled in the course of a fight. It is also thus going to be stronger if she is fighting with or against someone of magical aptitude, as the more magical energy there is floating about, the stronger it will be.

Defensive barriers come in a variety of types, from a simple “Round Shield” to deflect small attacks, to wider energy barriers to defend both herself and others around her. She has shown the ability to tie other effects into barriers, such as a Barrier Burst which breaks her barrier with a backlash of energy.

Support abilities are anything that doesn't fall into the basics of offense and defense. These include the Flier Fins that grant her the power of flight, or the capability of splitting her energy with other Mages to empower them when weakened. There is a (not often used anymore) capability in Raising Heart of being able to seal dangerous magical objects, rather than destroy them, used primarily on the sorts of objects that would cause things to go wild and out of control. She also has a smattering of Capture spells, which can effectively bind an opponent's limbs in place. These binds can be broken by various means, and require a certain amount of concentration from Nanoha herself to maintain them. Nanoha additionally can initiate Area Searches to sweep areas for activity or particular magical objects.

Her powers will primarily be drawn from StrikerS initially, wherein she has three particular modes of combat: Aggressive, Exceed, and the Blaster System.

Aggressive Mode is a standard form where she has access to the majority of her skills, but it is considered of a lower class and restricts her power to an extent. Exceed Mode amplifies the output of her attacks, allowing her access the Exellion Buster, an upgraded version of the Divine Buster with a higher damage output, but shorter range. The Blaster Mode is an experimental system which increases her power to even greater heights, through a series of three more and more powerful stages. She also gains use of "Blaster Bits," which are basically duplicates of Raising Heart's spearhead and capable of firing off comparable blasts of magical power on their own. The Blaster System has a draw back however of damaging Nanoha the more she uses it, potentially eating away at her life.

In Nanoha Force, she gains even heavier armaments - specifically the Strike Cannon and Fortress Mode. To put it lightly, its as if started flying around with weapons and armor comparable to giant robot weapons, as the Strike Cannon is a massive... well, cannon and Fortress Mode comprises of mobile bits of heavy armor that can move around her.

Information on all the spells she has access to can be found here, and more elaboration can be given if needed. [Anything explicitly stated as just for the Movie only will not be applicable, as Nanoha is being drawn from TV Series continuity.]

Despite having a lot of tools at her disposal and great skill to use them, Nanoha is still human. Once you peel through her barriers, she can (and has) been hurt just as any other human. If she uses too much magic, she can be left weakened and vulnerable. Her rapid growth in magical prowess at such a young age has had negative effects on her body in the past, and excessive over use of high yield attacks and forms can leave her with internal damage to her body if she's not careful. As this is only a few years after a grievous injury that nearly cost her the ability to even walk, that can also be a limitation and can leave her with having to be more careful on how long and hard she pushes her body in a confrontation.

Mid-Childa magical damage is, inherently, not fatal and one of her giant pink energy beams will not kill you if it just happens to smack you into the ground. Of course, creative usage of spells could yield more deadly results, but on their base level in spite of being able to wreck scenery, they won't KILL you. They'll just hurt you. A lot. Possibly making you wish they had killed you after all.

Mages of Nanoha's world have an ability to communicate telepathically. This isn't mind reading or manipulation, it's simply projecting thoughts like a radio, and used mainly in combat situations to replace the need for a radio on the battlefield.

Of note along with all of this is Nanoha's knowledge. She's an instructor for her military, and as such knows an awful lot about it, combat, and the ins-and-outs of everything it takes to be a Mage. As such, the knowledge of how to create duplicate Cartridges would likely be something that could come to her.

[Up pops a video! It's Natalie! She looks super happy to see you all, even if she can't actually see you until anyone replies, and that's only if it's with video, and- oh that's not important. She's all smiles! That is.]

Greetings! How are you all doing today? No one on here ever seems to just check on that, and that seems a little sad.

[The smile remains, but her expression seems to falter a little. Tighten just a bit.]

I was wonder however, while I'm here... Is this all necessary, anymore? Isn't the FBI starting to handle things well enough, now that they know...? I don't mean that I'm trying to hide from it, it's just that...

[There's a slight sigh, her eyes shift away from the camera. She littles a little sad, but the smile stays all the same.]

I'm responsible for children, you know. Even with all this supposed power, how can I... honestly call myself responsible if I'm around them? If I could put them in danger by just being there?

    [She looks down.]

She was responsible for children too. But... not in a way I'd want to consider... [Training soldiers, teenagers and younger...

She shakes her head, and realizes this is probably a mistake. So she looks at the camera and musters up as much sweetness in her expression as she can, all the same.]

You know, nevermind. I guess that's something I have to figure out for myself. For all of you... I hope you're having a good day.

    Any Questions? Nnnnnnope.

Nnnnnnope.
